Things to know to use ZIPIT:
The easiest way to set up zipit is to put all the files in the same
directory and then include that directory in the path statement.
A). Use of archive programs: (Pkzip.exe and Pkunzip.exe by Phil Kates)
Zipit uses the archiving programs from Phil Kates, Pkzip and Pkunzip.
To be able to do useful work ZIPIT has to be able to find Pkzip and
Pkunzip. Do one of the following:
1. Have pkzip and pkunzip in the directory that is the default
directory when ZIPIT is called.
2. Set the dos environment variable PATH to the path that pkzip and
pkunzip reside in. It is suggested that you set the path in the
autoexec.bat file so it is done when the computer is booted up.
B). Help file: (ZIPIT.HLP)
The help file for ZIPIT is named "ZIPIT.HLP". To use the help
feature ZIPIT has to be able to find the help file. Do one of
the following to let ZIPIT know where the help file is:
1. Have the help file located in the default directory when
ZIPIT is called.
2. Put the help file 'zipit.hlp' in a directory that is included
in the path statement. It is recommenced that ZIPIT and
'zipit.hlp' be put in the same directory and the path
statement include the path where the two files reside.
3. Set the dos environment variable ZIPIT_HLP to the full path
name where the help file "ZIPIT.HLP" is located.
Example:
set zipit_hlp=c:\utility\zip
C). Addpath.bat
To help the users of Zipit I have also included a simple batch file
called addpath.bat. Addpath is a simple way to add a path to the path
environment variable.
USE: Addpath <the path you want to add>
EXAMPLE : At the dos prompt or in autoexec.bat.
c:>addpath c:\zipit
